The staff were pleasant and as always the food was GOOD. I ordered gumbo & boudin this time but my usual go to is Blacken catfish po boy.

Kind staff and fun atmosphere with indoor and outdoor seating. Gumbo was smoky, delicious and flavorful. The andouille sausage was flavorful as well. The seafood étouffée was good but could have been more flavorful. The Vietnamese poboy could have benefitted from some added sauce or acidity.

This place is a dive with very good food. Had the gumbo and mufaletta which we ordered at the bar and was served quickly. Both were very tasty! Look forward to returning and trying some other dishes.

The Rougaroux is just all around delicious. I ordered the burger of the day to-go and it didn't disappoint. It had a well seasoned patty topped with cheese, bacon, and fried jalapeños. Sooo tasty! The fries were also hot and crispy, a win all around.

Great food and such friendly staff! Got the viet cajun seafood po'boy. The shrimp was so tender, cooked properly (not dry and chewy) and well seasoned. Couldn't really tell if there was crawfish in there but that's fine since the shrimp was so well cooked. My only critique is that there was not enough of the meat to offset the thickness of the bread. Wish there was more stuffing because it was so good. The fries were perfect. I don't even like crinkle cut fries but these were so crispy and crunchy and fresh. Paired with the well seasoned remoulade , it was a great dish. We split the sandwhich between two of us and it was a solid lunch. Staff deserves its own highlight. They were so friendly and social.

Great good at a funky little spot!! This place is a hidden gem amongst Birmingham with good Cajun food and friendly people to boot!! They have a good selection of po'boys and some assorted Cajun sides. Give them a shot!

By far, the best Red beans and rice in the city. Having lived in the New Orleans area, it was really nice to find some good spicy New Orleans style red beans. The server was grand enough to remove the sausage for me. A big bowl of the rice and beans with a side order of hush puppies really hit the spot. I was disappointed in the fact that they did not have the vegan burger as stated on the daily special menu, but the server was so accommodating in offering to prepare different vegan dishes as a substitute. Ok, let's discuss the vibe...an old house with a couple of lean too added for outdoor seating. The vibe was that of an old school house party with a couple of TVs to enjoy Saints games or your favorite team sports. The vibe was vibing indeed. Yes indeed I will return.

The service was phenomenal. All staff was friendly and made suggestions regarding the menu. Nice chill atmosphere The food was delicious. We shared a couple of shrimp baskets and the viet po boy. The Bathrooms were clean!

I had an amazing experience at this restaurant! Thanks to previous reviews, I was warned that the restaurant might be easy to miss and indeed it was. Make sure to drive slow so you won't overlook it. They offered outdoor seating, and the decor was unique. The shrimp po'boy was absolutely delicious! The portion size was generous, and I couldn't even finish half of it. My only wish is that it came with fries. The shrimp baskets were also tasty, with well-seasoned and fresh fries. All the food served was hot and delicious! The gumbo and potato salad were just average. The potato salad had a distinct taste that wasn't to my preference. Now, let me tell yall about the bread pudding-- honeyyyyy it was toooooo good! It's an absolute must-try! It exceeded all expectations and I was honestly thinking about ordering a bowl to-go. The staff was incredibly friendly, provided fast service, and served up some truly great food!

IM JUST A PO'BOY NOBODY LOVES ME! Working in the food industry has introduced me to some amazing hidden gems among other restaurants that I would have never known about unless someone had suggested them. The Rougaroux being one of the top places I have heard about nonstop. For those who are unaware, the word Rougaroux translates to ware-wolf. A person in the transitional period between man and wolf. The Rougaroux resturant is located in the Forest Park area of Birmingham. A beautiful area of town with some restaurants and boutique shops alike. This restaurant serves up New Orleans style food from the classics like red beans and rice, gumbo and if course a wide range of o boys. Some traditional and others a lot more unique ones too. I believe that this resturant is perfect from the way it is displayed and its outlook right down to the food everything screams and I mean SCREAMS Nola. You cannot have a creole/Nola style resturant without it looking like a house that was reincarnated into a resturant. That's the Nola way. Rougaroux from the outside looks just like this. A house that was refurbished and turned into a resturant, yet still gives off a homey vibe to it. It was suggested that you need to know what to order from here in order to have a good experience. When i came in for lunch today I knew exactly what to order. I ordered a Roast Beef Debris and by golly that sandwich was delicious. It was thick, moist and had a bit of a kick of spice to it. Absolutely delicious. I was a little worried as this sandwich is pretty big, but I kept eating until I couldn't anymore. This sandwich is pretty messy so if you are to order it, lots of napkins and possibly a fork is needed. Overall, I loved my experience here and will be happy to return. Everything from the ascetic, to the overall atmosphere, you almost forget you are in Birmingham Alabama while eating here. I am sure this is a hopping place on the weekends a well as during the month of Mardi Gras. Add this spot to your list if you are staying in town for the holiday.
